5 Ways to Improve Digital TV Reception

Nowadays, we’re spoilt when it comes to the quality of the TV we get to watch. It wasn’t too long ago that fuzzy pictures and low quality VHS was the norm. However the HD TV has changed all that. Whilst HD TVs provide vastly superior picture quality, a lot of people mistakenly assume that they simply work out of the box and always have great picture quality. This is not the case.

Modern TVs still require a good reception in order for the picture quality to be at its best. If you don’t have a good aerial or it’s not in an optimum position then you’ll likely have problems such as the image clarity being less than ideal and the picture cutting out and breaking up. If you’re dealing with such problems then below are 5 proven ways to improve digital TV reception.

1. Outdoor Aerials Are Always Better

If you’re currently using an indoor aerial then this could easily be the cause of the problems you’re experiencing. Whilst it is possible to purchase good quality indoor aerials, the truth is that outdoor aerials will always provide a better signal. This is because they can be placed higher up and they also don’t have walls blocking the signal that they receive.

2. Invest In a Good Quality Aerial

Not all aerials are the same and if you want to get the best picture quality possible then you should invest in a good aerial. Do your research online and find the best aerial you can that’s within your budget. If for whatever reason you cannot have an outdoor aerial installed, then look for the best indoor aerial you can find.

3. Improve Aerial Positioning

If you do use an indoor aerial then positioning is going to be key to getting a good reception. The best position for an indoor aerial is next to a window and high up on the wall. Flat aerials are good because you can easily fix them to walls and don’t have to worry about them falling down. Aerial positioning can make a big different to the picture quality you get so this is always something to think about.

4. Be Wary Of Blockage

When your outdoor aerial is blocked by large objects, such as trees, it can greatly affect the picture quality you get. If the trees are in your own garden then you might choose to have them cut down. However you can also have the aerial repositioned if you don’t want to affect the trees.

5. Have An Expert Look At The Aerial

If you’ve tried the tips above and it still hasn’t improved the reception that you’re getting then it’s a good idea to hire an expert to have a look at things for you. The problem might be something that you’d never considered. For example, if you’re just moved into a new area, then the reception might be bad overall and it’s nothing to do with the particular equipment you have or where the aerial is placed.
